Athletes Around LLC ("Athletes Around," "we," "us," or "our") respects your privacy.
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, retain, and protect information about you when you use the Athletes Around mobile application, website, and related services (collectively, the "Platform"). It also describes certain rights you may have and how you can exercise them.
It also explains choices and rights you may have regarding your information.
By using Athletes Around, you acknowledge the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
1. Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to information processed through Athletes Around, including information associated with:
- The Athletes Around mobile application
- Our websites and web-based interfaces
- Event registration, team features, and training tools
- Communications we send to you
- Other interactions you have with Athletes Around
Third-party services accessible through Athletes Around may have their own privacy policies. We encourage you to review those policies before sharing information with those services.
2. Age Requirements
Athletes Around is intended for users who are 13 years of age or older. Users between 13 and 17 must have parental or guardian consent to use the Platform. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent.
If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without appropriate consent, we will take steps to delete that information. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us at privacy@athletesaround.com.
3. Information You Provide to Us
Account Information
When you create or maintain an account, we may collect information such as:
- Name
- Username
- Email address
- Phone number (optional)
- Password credentials
- Profile photo
- Date of birth (to verify age)
Passwords may be processed and stored through our authentication provider using appropriate security protections rather than being accessible to Athletes Around in plain text.
Athlete Profile Information
To connect with other athletes and find relevant events, you may provide:
- Sports and activities you participate in
- Skill level or experience (e.g., beginner, intermediate, advanced)
- Preferred playing positions or roles
- Availability and scheduling preferences
- Team affiliations
- Athletic goals or interests
- Bio or description
Organizer Information
If you create events or manage teams as an organizer, we may collect:
- Business or organization name
- Contact details
- Event details, descriptions, and logistics
- Pricing and payment terms
- Refund policies
- Verification documents (e.g., government-issued ID, business registration)
4. Location Information
Location information is central to Athletes Around's purpose of connecting athletes in your area.
Public Location Information
To enable discovery and matching, we may use:
- City, neighborhood, or general area you provide
- Location derived from your IP address
- Approximate location for displaying nearby events and athletes
Device Location Controls
If you grant permission, we may access more precise device location to show events and athletes near you. You can revoke location permissions at any time through your device settings. Revoking location access may reduce the Platform's ability to surface relevant nearby content.
5. User-Generated Content
When you use Athletes Around, you may create or share:
- Posts, updates, and activity feeds
- Photos and videos
- Comments and reactions
- Event reviews or ratings
- Messages in community spaces or team channels
Content you post to public areas of the Platform may be visible to other users and, in some cases, to the general public. Please consider what you share carefully.
6. Messages and Communications
We process messages and communications you send or receive through Athletes Around, including direct messages between users, event announcements, team communications, and customer support conversations.
While we do not read private messages as a matter of course, we may review communications when investigating reported violations of our Community Guidelines, legal compliance matters, or safety concerns.
7. Teams and Sports Information
To support team features, we may collect:
- Team name, sport, and competitive level
- Roster information (names and contact details of team members)
- Schedules, results, and statistics you enter
- Team roles (e.g., captain, coach, manager)
- League or association affiliations
8. Event and Registration Information
When you register for or create events, we may collect:
- Event preferences and registration data
- Participant lists and headcounts
- Emergency contact information
- Skill level and eligibility confirmations
- Dietary restrictions or accessibility needs (when provided)
- Check-in status and attendance records
Some of this information may be shared with event organizers to manage participation. See "How We Share Information" below.
9. Waivers and Electronic Agreements
When you sign waivers, liability releases, or other agreements through Athletes Around, we collect:
- Your electronic signature and consent record
- Timestamp and IP address at time of signing
- The specific version of the agreement you accepted
- Any information required by the waiver (e.g., emergency contacts)
10. Training and Workout Information
If you use training or workout features, we may collect:
- Workout logs and activity records
- Performance metrics (e.g., pace, distance, reps)
- Training goals and progress
- Integration data from connected fitness apps or wearables (if you authorize)
Health and fitness data you provide is used to power the features you request and is not sold to third-party advertisers.
11. Payment Information
When you pay for events, subscriptions, or other services, payment is processed through our third-party payment processor. We do not store your full payment card numbers. We may receive and store:
- Transaction identifiers and confirmation records
- Last four digits of a card (for display purposes)
- Billing name and address
- Payment history for your account
- Refund and dispute records
Our payment processor's use of your payment data is governed by their own privacy policy.
12. Identity and Organizer Verification
To build trust and safety, we may collect identity verification information from organizers and, in some cases, athletes. This may include government-issued ID documents, selfies or biometric comparisons performed by a third-party verification service, business registration or tax documentation, and background check authorizations.
Biometric verification, where performed, is handled by our third-party verification partner, whose privacy practices govern that data.
13. Information Collected Automatically
When you use Athletes Around, we and our service providers automatically collect certain information, including:
- Device type, operating system, and app version
- IP address
- Browser type (for web access)
- Pages or screens viewed and features used
- Clicks, taps, and interactions within the Platform
- Session duration and frequency of use
- Referral source (how you arrived at Athletes Around)
- Crash reports and error logs
15. How We Use Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and manage your account
- Connect you with athletes, teams, and events near you
- Facilitate event registration and payments
- Enable messaging and community features
- Power matching and discovery algorithms
- Send transactional notifications (confirmations, reminders, updates)
- Provide customer support
- Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and safety violations
- Enforce our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines
- Improve and develop the Platform
- Comply with legal obligations
- Send marketing communications (where you have consented or where permitted by law)
- Personalize your experience and surface relevant content
- Generate aggregate analytics and insights (in de-identified or aggregated form)
17. Advertising and Sale of Personal Information
Athletes Around does not sell personal information to third-party advertisers. If we introduce interest-based advertising in the future, we will update this Privacy Policy and provide appropriate choices.
We may use aggregated, de-identified data for analytics and business reporting in ways that do not identify individual users.
18. Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as necessary to provide the Platform and fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including:
- Active account data: retained while your account is active
- Transaction and waiver records: retained as required for legal and financial compliance
- Communications and support records: retained for a reasonable period after resolution
- Deleted content: may remain in backups for a limited period before full deletion
When you delete your account, we begin the process of removing your personal data in accordance with our deletion policy (see Section 19).
19. Account and Data Deletion
You may request deletion of your account and associated personal data at any time through the app settings or by contacting privacy@athletesaround.com.
Upon receiving a deletion request, we will:
- Deactivate your account promptly
- Delete or anonymize your profile and personal information
- Remove your public-facing content from the Platform
- Process the deletion within 30 days, subject to the exceptions below
We may retain certain information after deletion where required by law, for legitimate fraud prevention, to resolve disputes, to enforce our agreements, or for other legally permitted purposes. Retained data will not be used for marketing.
20. Privacy Choices
You have choices about how we collect and use your information:
- Profile visibility: Adjust who can see your profile in settings
- Location permissions: Enable or disable precise location through your device settings
- Marketing emails: Unsubscribe using the link in any marketing email
- Push notifications: Manage notification preferences in the app or device settings
- Data access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Data correction: Update or correct your information in account settings
- Data deletion: Request account and data deletion as described in Section 19
21. California Privacy Rights
California residents have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), including:
- Right to Know: Request information about the categories and specific pieces of personal information we collect, use, and disclose
- Right to Delete: Request deletion of personal information, subject to certain exceptions
- Right to Correct: Request correction of inaccurate personal information
- Right to Opt Out of Sale or Sharing: We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising
- Right to Limit Use of Sensitive Personal Information: Where applicable
- Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights
To exercise these rights, contact us at privacy@athletesaround.com or use the in-app privacy controls. We will verify your identity before processing requests. Authorized agents may submit requests on your behalf with appropriate documentation.
22. Security
We implement reasonable technical, administrative, and physical safeguards to protect your information. These include encryption of data in transit and at rest, access controls, and regular security reviews.
No security system is impenetrable. We cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information. If we become aware of a security breach that affects your personal data, we will notify you as required by applicable law.
23. Children's Privacy
Athletes Around is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information without your consent, please contact us at privacy@athletesaround.com and we will take steps to remove that information.
Users between 13 and 17 may use Athletes Around with appropriate parental or guardian consent. We encourage parents and guardians to monitor their children's use of digital services.
24. Third-Party Links and Services
The Platform may contain links to third-party websites, services, or integrations. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those third-party services. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you access through or in connection with Athletes Around.
Third-party integrations (such as connected fitness apps) that you authorize will be governed by the authorizing agreement and the third party's own privacy policy.
25. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you through the Platform or by email and update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy.
Your continued use of Athletes Around after changes become effective constitutes your acknowledgment of the revised policy. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
